Around 1997 I started taking a course at the Free Academy in The Hague. From that time on painting never left my life. At first mostly primary colors and figurative images, but gradually the paintings became more and more abstract.
They range from large to small, subdued to exuberant, from thick blobs of paint to much more subtly applied paint in thin layers, as many as twenty on top of each other to achieve subtle color nuances. The forms become increasingly free. Yet there are often landscapes to be discovered in them. As I say myself, the image is often there before the word, my deepest feelings translate onto the canvas. They also surprise me every now and then.
